Plum oil is what is known as an “upcycled” oil. It is obtained from a by-product of the food industry: the pits of the famous Agen prunes are collected in order to extract the kernel at their centre. The kernel is then pressed, squeezed and dried before the oil is extracted.
Its naturally indulgent scent, reminiscent of bitter almond and frangipane, makes it a unique sensorial oil: a true return to childhood.
At Siprès, we use plum in the form of virgin vegetable oil, cold-pressed. We also use plum pit powder, in different particle sizes, as 100% natural exfoliating grains. A true zero-waste ingredient.
Properties
Antioxidant, softening and relipidating, plum oil is a true anti-dryness and anti-ageing treatment, rich in plant actives. It is particularly recommended for mature skin or deeply dehydrated skin lacking nourishment.
Naturally rich in vitamin E and omega-9, plum oil helps restore the skin barrier and therefore limit water loss.
History
The Ente plum, from the old French “enter” meaning to graft, appeared in the Benedictine abbey of Clairac in the Lot Valley. The monks are said to have crossed local plum trees, introduced by the Romans, with Damascus plum trees brought back from Syria by Crusaders in the 12th century. Drying the plums, in the sun or in bread ovens until the 18th century, allowed long preservation. This variety grows mainly along the Garonne and Lot valleys in south-western France, its land of choice.
Origin
Siprès plum oil comes from Ente plums grown in Nouvelle-Aquitaine to produce the famous Agen prunes. It is made by a family business which, through its organic orchards, controls the entire process from A to Z. It has received several awards as a food oil, highlighting the quality of its raw material.
Extraction
After the harvest, which takes place from mid-August to mid-September, the kernels inside the pits are slowly cold-pressed using a screw press. The oil obtained from this mechanical extraction is then filtered several times. This method preserves the quality of the fatty acids naturally present in the kernel.
