Very popular, especially for baby care, sweet almond oil is one of the most widely used vegetable oils in cosmetics.

Due to high demand, it is common on the market to find diluted sweet almond oils or blends with cheaper oils. At Siprès, traceability from orchards to extraction is therefore essential.

Our French sweet almond oil is a rare and precious product: today, almond trees have become quite scarce in France.

At Siprès, we use a virgin vegetable oil obtained by first cold pressing.

Properties

Soothing and anti-inflammatory, sweet almond oil helps calm redness, irritation, and itching in sensitive and reactive skin.

Nourishing and softening thanks to its omega-6 and omega-9 content, it restores suppleness and elasticity to skin that feels tight or uncomfortable. It also helps protect the skin against external aggressions.

As a precaution, people with nut allergies are advised to avoid using sweet almond oil, even externally.

History

Originally from the mountains of Western Asia and North Africa, the almond tree is already mentioned in the Book of Genesis. In antiquity, it symbolised joy, hope, and renewal. Almond trees have been cultivated for over 5,000 years, first in Iran. They were introduced to Europe, particularly the Mediterranean basin, by the Greeks, and later spread by the Arabs. In the Middle Ages, almond cultivation expanded in France. In the 19th century, almond trees were introduced to the United States, which is now the world’s leading producer (California). Cultivation declined in France but has been gradually revived in recent decades.

Origin

Siprès sweet almond oil comes from almond trees grown in the Cévennes by Laurence, Jean, and their small team. They revived almond cultivation more than 25 years ago in a region where it had nearly disappeared. These orchards are not irrigated, which reduces yields but also improves quality by concentrating aromas and active compounds.

Extraction

Siprès sweet almond oil is cold-pressed to preserve all its properties.
