You have certainly already seen its beautiful blue flowers in gardens or vegetable patches. The flowers are edible and are often used as decoration in salads.
But what interests our borage oil producer are its seeds, which are cold-pressed to obtain the oil.
At Siprès, we use a virgin borage vegetable oil, obtained by first cold pressing in Belgium, through a short supply chain in order to preserve its freshness, quality, and richness in vitamins and fatty acids. This proximity is essential to ensure highly active skincare products.
PROPERTIES
Anti-inflammatory and repairing thanks to its high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega-6) and vitamins A, D, E, and K, borage oil helps repair skin tissue in cases of various skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, or other dermatological disorders.
Antioxidant, regenerating, and softening, borage oil is also used to help prevent wrinkles and stretch marks. It brings suppleness, elasticity, and firmness to the skin, nourishing it without clogging pores.
HISTORY
Already known in antiquity, borage is mentioned positively in the writings of Homer and Pliny the Elder. It was present in medieval herb gardens for its medicinal properties: expectorant and diuretic, but also considered aphrodisiac! Its star-shaped flowers and leaves were also eaten in salads, as they are again today.
Originally from Syria before spreading throughout the Mediterranean basin and then the rest of Europe, its name is believed to come from the Arabic abou rash, meaning “father of sweat,” due to its sudorific properties. It is also nicknamed “bee bread” because it is highly attractive to bees.
ORIGIN
Borage is cultivated in Belgium under organic farming on a small plot on the outskirts of Brussels. The producer carries out meticulous work to produce borage oil from seeds harvested on-site. Indeed, borage seeds are sensitive to humidity, foreign odours, and temperature variations, requiring great expertise and strict handling conditions.
EXTRACTION
Siprès borage oil is cold-pressed to preserve all its properties.
