Seasonal changes especially spring and autumn are ideal moments to detox both the skin and the body.

Why do we talk about detox in spring?

In winter, our lifestyle can sometimes put extra strain on the body and create a feeling of fatigue or heaviness. Heavier meals, stress and a lack of physical activity during the winter season can slow down the work of our filtering organs, namely the liver and kidneys.

A spring detox helps support the body’s natural elimination functions, restore energy and release seasonal fatigue. By easing the burden on the liver, we also support the other elimination organs skin, lungs and intestines.

We are sharing 5 healthy habits to help cleanse your body and restore your energy as spring arrives.

5 natural habits to restore energy and lightness

1-A birch sap cure

Birch sap is known for its detoxifying, draining and remineralising properties.

  • It helps eliminate toxins and waste that have accumulated in the body during winter, notably by stimulating kidney function and promoting urine production.
  • It helps eliminate water retained in the tissues: it is ideal for fighting water retention, cellulite and the feeling of swelling.
  • It revitalises the body thanks to its richness in minerals and trace elements such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron and manganese. These nutrients are essential to the body’s proper functioning and can contribute to better vitality, regulation of the nervous system and maintenance of healthy bones and muscles.

2- Hydration and herbal infusions

Remember to drink regularly 1.5 to 2 litres of water per day. Hydration supports the function of the kidneys and liver, two key organs in waste elimination. You can also add herbal infusions to your water, such as rosemary, lemon, mint or ginger, which are traditionally used to support digestion and hydration.

Here is an easy spring infusion recipe :

  • peel and cut 2 to 3 cm of fresh ginger into thin slices stimulates digestion and helps eliminate toxins
  • squeeze the juice of one organic lemon an excellent detoxifier rich in vitamin C
  • wash around ten sprigs of fresh mint soothing and supports digestion
  • let everything infuse in 1 litre of water for around ten minutes, then strain

To vary the recipe, you can replace the mint with 2 to 3 sprigs of fresh rosemary.

3- A plate full of vegetables

The return of sunshine is the perfect time to lighten what is on our plate. To help the body cleanse itself, we try to reduce inflammatory foods by lowering our consumption of meat, cheese and other dairy products, coffee, alcohol, salt… and prepare plates full of seasonal fruits and vegetables.

A few ideas for seasonal vegetables in Belgium that we are happy to see again in spring: asparagus, spinach, artichokes, lettuce and fennel.

Think about fresh vegetable juices to stock up on vitamins. Vegetables commonly used in detox juices include carrot, fennel, celery, spinach and beetroot. Do not hesitate to combine them with a fruit such as apple to soften the taste.

4- A lymphatic drainage session

To help the body eliminate toxins, we invite you to treat yourself to a little Me Time with a lymphatic drainage session.

Lymphatic drainage is a gentle massage technique that stimulates the circulation of lymph, a bodily fluid that plays a key role in fluid circulation and proper immune function.

Lymphatic drainage also helps reduce water retention: by stimulating lymphatic and blood circulation, it helps reduce excess fluid in the tissues and fight swelling, especially in the legs, feet and face.

By stimulating blood circulation and encouraging toxin elimination, lymphatic drainage also helps restore a brighter complexion and firmer skin.

5- Getting back into sport

As you will have understood, spring is a time for eliminating toxins. Physical activity stimulates blood circulation and sweating, two mechanisms that contribute to the healthy function of the skin and the body’s overall balance.

The return of sunny days is the perfect time to get back to more regular physical activity, at least once or twice a week. If you are not into intense exercise, consider planning, for example at the weekend, a long bike ride or walk.

Taking time to relax and reconnect with your body and with nature helps reduce stress and supports more effective detoxification.

Skin detox

The skin is the body’s largest eliminatory organ in other words, it helps eliminate waste accumulated by the body. As seasonal change encourages the elimination of toxins built up by the body, imperfections can appear on the skin at the end of winter breakouts, dull complexion…

To help the skin regain its balance a radiant complexion, hydrated skin and fewer imperfections, I recommend adopting, for at least one month, a purifying skincare routine, without drying out the skin with overly harsh products.

What facial routine should you adopt in spring?

  • Cleanse without stripping

Siprès Cleansing Oil allows you to cleanse the skin gently every day evening only is enough, without drying it out, while preserving the balance of the hydrolipidic film on the surface of the skin. Facial cleansers with harsh surfactants or containing alcohol are counterproductive, especially for skin prone to imperfections: the more the hydrolipidic film is damaged, the more it reacts by producing excess sebum. We then enter a vicious cycle.

  • Tone and purify

Before applying your day and night treatment, misting a suitable floral water is an important step to regulate the skin’s pH, provide surface hydration, tone and purify the skin.

We recommend  French Bay Laurel Water for its antibacterial and purifying properties or, if you have sensitive skin, French Fine Lavender Water to support skin repair and soothing.

  • Regulate

Siprès Purifying Oil Serum will be your best ally to regulate sebum production, soothe inflammation and contribute to skin balance thanks to its unique blend of plant and essential oils with sebum-regulating, anti-inflammatory, healing and purifying properties.

For a lighter spring skin detox, I recommend using French Hazelnut Face Oil as either a day or night treatment to regulate sebum production.

IIncorporating these products into your routine will help improve the appearance of pores and reduce comedones and other imperfections.

Do not hesitate to take the time to massage your face with your fingertips to stimulate blood circulation.

Weekly treatments to gently purify the skin

Unclog pores

Gentle exfoliation once or twice a week with the Radiance Face Exfoliant, will help unclog pores and promote skin renewal.

Deep purification

Once a week, a green clay and French Bay Laurel Water mask helps deeply cleanse skin overloaded with toxins.

Skin fasting

Once a week on Sunday for example, let your skin breathe. The night before, cleanse your skin properly with the Cleansing Oil. In the morning, wipe your face with a reusable cotton pad soaked in French Bay Laurel Water to remove the impurities of the night. Then do not apply anything to your skin. No oil, no cream and above all no makeup.
